From out of the blurry haze hovering unsteadily between indie and alternative dance, new London label People In The Sky have emerged with the warmly received ‘Photobooth EP‘ from Friendly Fires – the group labelled as “one of the top three indie bands in the UK” by NME, “most exciting bands in 2007” by FACT, “band to watch in 2007” by Vice and “Ones to Watch in 2007” by MTV.

“Friendly Fires make razor-sharp post-punk that burns through the memories of all the dismal, skinny jeaned ‘80s revivalists you’ve been hearing these past few years. Sounding brittle, knotty and urgent, Friendly Fires are the real deal. With no fat or padding on them at all, their songs possess an elegant sparseness. Amongst all the stripped-back twists, there are also moments full of deep, blessed-out melodies. What Friendly Fires take from dance music is a great deal more subtle than adding piano-rave loops onto indie; drummer Jack Savidge explains that, “what we take from techno is to try and use quite simple components, and then order and layer them together in new ways.”
