Havana Guns is an East London band with a penchant for saccharine vocals, droning guitars and warm
organ sounds. An early reviewer called their sound “motorcycle pop”; guitarist Philippe Di Nero explains:
“None of us know what it means but we thought it sounded good. I owned a Vespa once, but no-one
else in the band has any motorcycle experience”. Pretty, vacant and willing, the band’s influences
include Velvet Underground, Blondie, The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Supremes.
Havana Guns formed in late 2004 over a discussion about where to get decent lunch for less than £5 in
East London. They spent one winter writing songs, and their first limited release 7” single “She Always
Goes Down” sold out, and was re-released on Cigarette Music. Even though distribution was limited,
they received attention by underground press and Indie radio programmes all over the world, for
example by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 1 and Rodney Bingenheimer on KROQ. In conjunction with
their second release the band is playing several UK dates.
