FRANCOIS AND THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS have an LP called The People To Forget. This is on Stitch Stitch Recordings who are part of a burgeoning Bristol scene of underground musicians. Remember that My Two Toms CD the other week??? Well that was part of the same lo fi scene.... This Francois album is largely sung in French and initially I'm thinking it sounds like Darren Hayman, Herman Dune, Francois Hardy etc. That kind of thing. Maggie loves this record as well and she's not here to review it. Ha! It's very honest sounding proper music.... some of the tracks are just piano.... others are more singer songwriter based. It's quite varied all in all. Surprised I was and there are moments of this that are excellent... other bits don't do it for me. Overall an enjoyable affair!

What their label says...

frànçois’ third album ‘The People to Forget’ showcases an even bolder, more mature sound with help of from the Atlas Mountains Ensemble, a cast of musical accomplices comprising a number of local talents including members of War Against Sleep, Whalebone Polly and Crescent. His trademark DIY set-up is now augmented by striking arrangements of harp, melodica, clarinet and brass. Almost orchestral in its musical flair and subtlety, frànçois makes for a natural conductor, his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering ambition shining through this new material. Following a successful tour of Spain and his native France, several London shows and a slot at Munkyfest in Cheshire, UK, frànçois spent this September touring the West Coast of Canada and the U.S. with three friends playing a mix of his own material. He also did the support for the Camera Obscura UK tour in June2006. He is now available for both gigs and live soundtracks to his animation shorts.
