OKKERVIL RIVER and their long delayed 12" called ' The Presidents Dead' is here. I never really knew what they sounded like.... I've heard bits but it's gone in one ear and out of the other.... We hear a lot of music.... I always thought they were more alt country than what I'm hearing. What am I hearing?? It sounds like an acoustic version of ' Girl From Mars' which then goes into some bright sounding catchy American College radio pop. I didn't think it would sound like this at all which just goes to show life is constantly full of surprises!

The Presidents Dead is the first release by Okkervil River since 2005’s masterful Black Sheep Boy project. Locked in the grooves of this limited edition vinyl-only release is what might be Okkervil River’s most accessible and most contentious song, ‘The President's Dead’. A two-minute and forty-two second serving of alternative historical fiction camouflaged as a folk anthem tarted up as a pop single that never was, The President's Dead empathetically depicts the shock felt by a young Republican upon hearing news of an assassination over the radio, its lyrics shifting sneakily from images of public horror to those of private tenderness as its music performs a similarly schizoid leap.
