The Liars tune is possibly their most
contentious effort yet, a sprawling, demented freeform run through Led
Zeppelin's 'How Many More Times' complete with deranged muffled wobble-vox
that would make your blood freeze if it came comin' atcha in a forest. I'd like
to see these guys tie Robert Plant to a tree in some spooky clearing,
scalp him & run round naked, smeared in squirrel poo, taking it in turns to
wear his 'mane' of hair whilst slapping each other with plastic spatulas. That's
what this crackers deconstruction does for me. Possibly one of the most unhinged
NY bands ever. On the flip, Gezzer Mitchell is a Scottish street poet
& his track with Little Sparta is another extended piece, 'Feasting
on my Heart'. Beginning in spirit a little like that William Campbell &
Kevin Macneill 7" 'Local Man Ruins Everything', soon becoming pretty
dour like Arab Strap laden with heavy mournful strings ala Rachels
darkest moments. It gets weirder, mind, with his weary rant starting to echo
back at him & the violin beginning to slice into your mind like a cancerous
raven in it's death throes. It does at one point take a turn back towards the
light & shows itself as a beautiful, melancholy piece of blackened future
folk. Intermittently revealing a torn, twisted soul full of pain & anger,
this is not music for the faint hearted, what with it's stained teeth &
bloodshot eyes. Brilliant stuff!

What their label says...
Fourth installment of the Keep Mother Series includes Mute Records band Liars and their extended cover of Led Zeppelins ‘How Many More Times.
The flip side is taken up by Scottish street poet Gerry Mitchell and his track ‘Feasting On My Heart’ which featured on the December covermount of WIRE magazines WIRE TAPPER.
Doing its bit for the environment in a recycled card-board sleeve (all hand numbered and stamped naturally...), the fourth installment of the Keep Mother series gets in the Liars and Gerry Mitchell for the occasion - handing over 10"s a piece for their musical statements. Opening the A with an extended cover of Led Zeppelins' 'How Many More Times', Liars conjure up a majestic rock cacophony that could give you whiplash if caught in its proximity. Turn it over and you'll find Scottish poet Gerry Mitchell and Little Sparta articulating into the night sky with a deliciously moody piece of spoken word that is given extra bite through its taut string backing and muttered samples - recalling Arab Strap at their most acerbic. Listen with mother...
10" limited to 500 copies. Hand stamped, hand numbered in recyled board sleeves.
