I've been a longtime fan of NEIL LANDSTRUMM since his early Peacefrog releases in the mid
nineties. With releases on Sativae and Tresor he fused the monstrous bass sound that was
prevalent in the drum n bass scene with his own unique futuristic take on the Chicago jack ethic. To see him pop up on the
Planet Mu label is a nice surprise . It's easy to see why Mike Paradinas
signed this as it fits nicely into the grimey sound the label has been
putting out recently and yet
it's in a league of its own. Where some of this stuff is fairly simple
and minimal 'Harlem Shoot Me' has alien techno sounds coming at you
from every angle and with the heavy bass drops you know its gonna rock
a floor through a big system. 'Wake Up' has a proper dirty old skool
rave sound with its big staps and bleeps. It's a nod to the early UK
hardcore days but with the production and trickery of IDM utilised to
bring the sound a little more up to date. An absolute cracker this one
which makes me think a lot of people will be checking this
guy's back catalogue and realising just how much of a pioneer he is.
