Sometimes a sleeve can do it. All of you must've been tempted at least
once or twice to check a record on the basis of it's artwork alone.
Even if there's no particular concept/motivation behind it.
ANDY JENKINSON (Squarepusher's baby bruv & Ceephax Acid Crew
party don) has involved himself in this ridiculously entertaining
project called 'The Crisp Chronicles' a hugely amusing animated film,
accompanied by this here 12" "soundtrack" on weird & wonderful
Belgian label
WeMe.
Gone is most of the acid, in comes quirky jingles, warped electronic
breaks & unsettling sound clips from the underground box office
crash of the year. If you know yer Monster Munch from yer Frazzles, yer
Walkers from yr Seabrooks & Yer Quavers from yr Doritos then this
daft piece of old-enough-to-know-better hokum will delight endlessly.
The music's pretty ace & varied in fact & works purely on it's
own as an out there electronic document, far eclipsing his usual
overwrought hardcore revival gear. Take track 3 on side two - a solid
technoid belter with an infectious
Kraftwerkian
synth line that'd slay a dancefloor. Follow this with a quirky gabber
Square-rave beast with the bendiest of basslines & a brilliant
comedy speed jungle break Crumbs! You know you want this silly bastard
of a record. We all do here. Then again we do have the mental age of a
primary skool kid. We've got this before anyone else in the UK, there's
only 800 pressed & it's Fan-tas-tic. Do it, baby!
