Some deaf shithead at Vice thinks the BURIAL album on Hyperdub
is "boring, gawky 2-step with token reggae samples & some crackles"
Well
I've been on a couple of little journeys with that album & think it
may not be as awesome as some make out but it's certainly a subtle,
multi layered gem of a disc in places. This coming from the same
magazine who rather depressingly rated the frankly dull Various album There's a smashing 12" here now on
Hyperdub, the lead track(s) being 2 mixes of 'Distant Lights' the first being a fairly decent re-rub by
Kode 9 but the dark, rumbling apocolyptic original has no peers. Phil spots the
AR Kane
inspired sound in there. They were misunderstood space dub innovators
& this is innovative & disturbingly beautiful music. Ant ran
home with this yesterday & hasn't been seen since. The two tracks
on the flip (another album track too for the grumbling vinyl junkies!)
'Pirate' & 'Gutted' are mighty fine moody morphers too. This could
have been single of the week had it had a cover as fantastic as 'The
Crisp Chronicles'......
