Now Brian wants to record his groans and send them off to places to see if he
can get album of the week. Enough of that I say. Now I'm talking XIU XIU. I've
always been fascinated by this dude/ band/ act/ whatever he/ they are. I don't
know and I'm not looking into it. The internet is a big old place. You've found
this and are reading it. You can go and look for yourself. In fact someone can
tell me if they fancy. They're new album called Air Force is a tour de force.
I've always wanted to say that. I think it means something is good. I wanted to
review this and now I'm here I can't think of anything to say about it. How do
you review a Xiu Xiu record? I guess I should look on Pitchfork. Ha! It's totally original for starters. It incorporates
more ideas than the annual output of Johnny's big idea factory and it's an
utterly compelling listen from start to end. Someone told me they thought they
sounded like a gay Nine Inch Nails. There could be something in that. I don't
know. We can hear bits of Lou Barlow in his voice.... bits of Japan in there....
it's stubborn and difficult. That's about as useful as I can be. It's the
poppiest and strongest release I've heard by 'em so far. This was very almost
album of the week.
