CLEARLAKE
arrive at the towers armed with a cool new 7" called 'It's Getting
Light Outside' which does that admirable job of being
quintessentially English, sporting a kinda irresistible flamenco Smiths
feel which is utterly great. String laden, underpinned by simple
driving echoing drums & a classic yearning vocal, this is a great
tune. Dare I say it, a hint of
My Life Story prevails without that dickhead on vocals. If this was Clearlake's debut then the likes of
Voxtrot
would be laughed at. Instead they're one of those respected 'cult'
bands probably mulling over album number three, wondering if the fickle
press will
actually even raise a cynical eyebrow. Why we have to import pseudo
Brit miserablism from overseas ala The Isles
when we have songwriting of this quality on our doorstep, I'll be buggered. Ltd 7" on sympathetic home
Domino.
