We were expecting great things of the Various Production album (called The
World Is Gone). The singles were blinding so the album was met with a degree of
high expectation..... consequently we're hideously disappointed with it. If
you've got the singles then you've got the best tracks (most of which are on
here) and the rest of it seems like filler to us. However now it's on XL and
those who are new to this lot (as the 7"'s were all limited) will probably
garner a whole load of pleasure from this as it's unique mixing of grime and
folk isn't really like anything else. It does sound an awful lot like Massive
Attack at times and I wonder how forward thinking it actually is. Ant rightly
pointed out that grime and folk aren't 2 genres that would normally mix so this
seems like it's been done by someone a bit savvy who's tailored it to the
current market trends. Call me cynical but that's what it whiffs of like to
us.......
