Ignored from sometime earlier this summer was the debut single from JESUS LICKS called 'Dalek Chorus'. We had a demo CD in by this band once & it was a raggle taggle delight. This red vinyl 7" is a mesmerising tribute to the good Doctor we all know & love & probably one of the most charming, wonky & spectral folk tunes I've ever heard. It sounds to me a little like Thinking Fellers in their alienfolk guise plucking away at a banjo in an hypnotic campfire fashion. The girl singer has the voice of an angel & her simple spine tingling mantra resonates throughout this naive gem of a tune. It's a crime this didn't garner more interest originally as we had excellent feedback from all who bought it first time. Utterly beautiful! On the flip we have 'Eternally Lonely' which suggests Lucky Luke jamming with The Delgados. Or a stomping folksy Lush. It's really bloody good! 3rd track 'Harr Barbie' reminds me of a shambling off kilter C86 band, kinda Heavenly meets Miaow or early Darling Buds with a dash of Beat Happening. With the girl from Life Without Buildings on vox. Cripes! Got all me comparisons in there didn't I??? You can all see the fantastic sleeve for this now as it's getting belated single of the week. You could alternatively have a wistful mozzer scoffing an ice cream on the sleeve to his newie perhaps!!! x Brian Dangermouse
