Next a 7" by Jesus (sorry.... sorry I mean Devendra Banhart) under the name
of The Queens of Sheba. It's a split xmas 7" with Lavender
Diamond. The
Queens of Sheba song is probably the worst Christmas song since Gary
Glitter's ill advised 'Christmas with the Kiddies' comeback single. The lyrics
are so great I'm going to quote some of them - "It's Christmas time - celebration mama, its
Christmas time celebration alright'. Howcan
you not feel moved after that - no wonder so many people are calling this
guy a genius. The B side by Lavender Diamond is a woman with a painfully high
voice singing a Christmas lullaby. It sits somewhere between Joanna Newsom and
the St Winifred's School Choir. Really limited job On Cold Sweat Records.
