The problem with electronica these days is you hear one record (today it's Worlds
End Girlfriend) and then put on another (the Cathode 7" I'm
about to review) and hear all the same noises and effects being used. In the
manner of many records recently, Cathode has used chopped up vocals to
liven things up a bit and even employs a guitar solo of sorts. This is extremely
well put together and has nods to Capitol K, Cocteau Twins
(the vocals are female and breathy) and anything on the Expanding or City
Centre Offices labels. The B side is a more ambient affair that hints at
both The Orb and Ulrich Schnauss. You may remember Cathode
from records a year or 2 back on Static Caravan. This one is a limited
7" on Distraction Records.
