So am I the only person to call them The Tears (as in years) rather
than The Tears as in ears? Probably. Anyway here is their new album the first
re-unification of Bernard Butler and Brett Anderson. Butlers guitar skirls all
over the thing and the whole shebang is compressed to high heaven for
maximum epic impact. Track 2 'Autograph' is actually quite great and melodically
not too far away from the Smiths. As the album stumbles on it seems to alternate
between 'Dog Man Star' style power ballads and Mcalmont and Butler type sky
reaching over the top pop. One thing is for certain - the lyrics are uniformly
awful.
