An equally mad lass (but in a different orbit altogether) is Kimya
Dawson of Moldy Peaches fame. She has both her 2nd & 3rd solo albums
out this week on Important Records. CD only, these are 'Knock knock who?'
& 'My cute fiend sweet princess'. There's something really endearing
about her work, like campfire folk songs written by a cheeky spacecake
with her head full of bubbles. I got a similar vibe from Lois Maffeo and
those ace Courtney Love (the band) singles on K from years back. Smashing.
Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.
What their label says...
"Don't be fooled by Kimya Dawson's tiny voice and fey affect. She writes like a giant, and finds the music to put her words across. " -Robert Christgau, Dean of American Rock Critics
"Kimya Dawson has the most arresting voice since Mo Tucker of the Velvet Underground." - John F. They Might Be Giants
