CWK Joynes is a blinding guitar player by all accounts, and on this latest 7” he’s joined by friends including Harrapian Night Recordings to whip up an east-meets-west instrumental frenzy with his frantic fingerpicking very much taking the fore. It’s bringing to mind a more dense and heady take on the mystical psych vibes on brilliant recent Orfanado album. Flip it and there’s more of the same busy spiritual psychedelia with drones and electronic twitters and Joynes’s ever-present dusky and intricate picking style giving it a grounding sense of physicality. Melodic and captivating stuff here from Mr Joynes as Great Pop Supplement continue their steady run of unique and excellent singles.

What their label says...

1 of 2 ace new 45s on The GPS for January, this one is the 3rd instalment of the GPS / Bo Weavil series of C Joynes 45s, featuring collaborative pieces with a disparate group of fellow travellers.

This time around, contributions come from Ethno-Noise Heroes ‘Harappian Nights Recordings’, Fredericksburg VA’s Sacred Harp, and Gavin Prior of United Bible Studies. A staggering project where Joynes’ renowned playing is backed by an almost anarchic drone-buzz of Eastern instrumentation, mood and feel. A truly psychedelic merging of styles, heavily prominent on HNR mainguy Syed Kamran Ali’s uniquely scatter gun use of ouds, screeching jouhikkos, finger harp and so on.

A fabulously dense, psych 45 in beautiful diecut sleeve in an edition of just 300 vinyl 45s.
