What their label says...

‘Basic Climb’ is the luxurious all-acoustic debut album from vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composer Ana Caravelle, produced by Ryan York (aka Asura), mixed and mastered by Daddy Kev. Limited pressing of 1000 copies on burgundy vinyl with free mp3 download card. 22 year old Ana Caravelle (real name, Anahita Navab) is a life-long Los Angeles resident with a refreshingly genuine musical outlook, who takes the influences of her city environments and turns them into something completely different : lush, organic and melodic gardens for listeners to plant their ears in. ‘Basic Climb’ is a culmination of her first five years of classical harp training and sees her take musical flight with comprehensive and adroit songwriting and arranging skills. Produced by her beau Ryan York and recorded at Alpha Pup label head Daddy Kev’s Echo Chamber studio, this album showcases Ana’s soulful harp playing and luxuriant voice matched with her rich instrumental arrangements for voice, strings, winds and percussion. Many of the songs on ‘Basic Climb’ were written and arranged in Ana’s final undergraduate year at UCLA while studying for a B.A. in Psychology, a core interest which inspires many of her multifaceted musical works. In addition to the influence of academic psychologiy, she also draws inspiration from her own journal entries, turning static words into flourishing and opulent vocal runs that resonate through the listener’s body. Although surrounded by the inspiring figures of the current Los Angeles beat scene (she plays on Asura’s stunning debut album and has performed at Low End Theory), Ana provides here a potent entry into her own entirely acoustic musical world, achieving a much sought-after grand intimacy with an unparalleled style of large-scale yet warm and inviting aural surroundings. Similarities with ‘Basic Climb’ can be traced to artists such as Joanna Newsom, The Long Lost, Múm, Regina Spektor, Nite Jewel, and Björk.
