I'm sorta familiar the Blood Red Shoes duo from there early gigs and i know Steve Ansell from previous projects The Oedipus and Projections. Both of these groups seem to have been a warm up to the ultra grunge formula they are now pursuing. As mentioned in the press release, this is pretty much a straight up grunge rock tune in the vein of The Pixies but with a fight song style chorus. Basically it's a big vocal hook accompanied by an even bigger, foot to the RAT pedal, distorted chorus. B-side 'Four Walls' is less catchy but has a propulsive, almost disco rhythm that keeps the whole thing ticking along.

What their label says...

Blood Red Shoes are set to release the track ‘Light It Up’ on February 22nd and are pleased to announce an intimate tour warm-up show at The Lexington on Thursday 28th January.

Taken from the bands sophomore album; “Fire Like This” which is due out the following week, “Light It Up” sees a progression and pairing down from Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell that echoes their DIY/punk roots. Recorded with producer Mike Crossey, Blood Red Shoes’ second album slices away a lot of the gloss in favour of a gutsy, raw and more intense sound, which is highly evident in the track as Steven explains:

“To me, Light It Up” is like our pixies formula song, just groove on the verses then smash the distortion up full on the chorus. It's about feeling like everything is about to explode and that you want it to explode. it's about craving for chaos and upheaval and destruction because it might actually change something.”

Blood Red Shoes will tour their second album this March (dates below) and the single ‘Light It Up’ is released on February 22nd.
