I really can't take Lightspeed Champion too seriously but his new album has managed to encourage both the appearance of a deep frown & a rigourous grimace on my usually serene features. He was in that godawful London fashion band Titsticles (or whatever the hell that particular musical abomination was called) He's got this kind of cringe worthy waver to his wimpy Lahnden moan that sounds just like that twat from Gene crossed with that fucking idiot from My Life Story. Its not a bad voice, just utterly, mindbogglingly horrid & tedious. Like much of the music. Cod symphonic wine bar plod with guitar solos you want to kick in the teeth, bad smug, self satisfied middle class indulgence with no redeeming features. A couple of songs off his last record were OK upbeat pop numbers with a bit of soul but I can't bear to continue with this as Business Lady is threatening mutiny. And I feel like having a triple fag break after that turgid rubbish. Grrrrr!

Sound clips for Life Is Sweet Nice To Meet You by Lightspeed Champion: on vinyl at Norman Records UK. Double LP (vinyl), Domino, WIGLP235, £12.69.
· Domino Records are very excited to announce that Lightspeed Champion has returned with his second album, ‘Life is Sweet! Nice To Meet You’. The follow-up to 2008’s ‘Falling Off The Lavender Bridge’ is an epic collection of twelve pop songs, two instrumental intermissions and one piano etude. · Lightspeed’s early leaning towards American country dressings is traded here for a palette that draws on classical music and even musical theatre. Producer and mixer Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley) assembles the eclectic grab-bag of influences, joltingly 70s guitar and synth sounds, classical piano, Greek choruses shouting reprisals, and at least one ukelele-driven moment. · Initial orders of the CD will contain a five track CD featuring four live versions of songs from the album, plus a version of ‘Devil In Disguise’ by Elvis Presley, recorded especially for his birthday. Once the initial 2CD runs out, the format will revert to a single CD version (WIGCD235). Also available on double vinyl.
