Sun Araw, early in the morning.. Sun Araw got a new seven inch. 'Bump Up (High Step)' is one of the most peculiar takes on dub I've heard in quite a while with cheap synths squelching and crying over an equally cheap-sounding digidub style bassline. Imagine taking your Jahtari records for a spin under the oceans of the Caribbean and you'll be somewhere in the region of 'this song'. 'Live Mind' on the flip dubs it up further with sparse drum hits echoed to within an inch of their lives and a pleasing cut-up feel which cleverly manages to retain more than a sliver of tunefulness. I think this is the first 7" he's done so I guess it makes sense that he'd with to pay tribute to a genre he loves on the format most associated with it. This is certainly my favourite release of his so far and goes some way to making up for the absolute bollocks he was talking in Wire the other month.. Hopefully he was just taking the piss a bit there, it's hard to tell with these hypnogogic types.

What their label says...
Following end of year poll accolades (as predicted) for their all slaying Heavy Deeds opus last year, Sun Araw kick off with a new two track 7" (limited, no returns, dont blow it!) on Not Not Fun, a tempter / taster of the new forthcoming double album due later in the spring...dubbed out psychhhhhaze bliss, like king tubby tweaked on loop, well...its tropically infused psych drone buzz, amazing..dubbed in places, stoned jammed out in others..2009 was theirs for the taking..2010 will be taken!
