The Soft Pack (formally Muslims) are probably gonna be really famous soon....and this new 7" supports that theory justly. Produced by Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys) 'Answer to yourself' sounds like an instant indie pop hit sitting somewhere between The Modern Lovers, The Stooges, The Undertones and New Order (well, the bassline atleast). It's rare to hear decent lyrics in a tune nowadays so that's refreshing in itself but the tune is pretty killer too. The B-side is a cover of The Cure's 'Grinding Halt' which is dealt with very tastefully and sounds very much like a Jonathan Richman-esque New York interpretation of the original. Wish these guys had stuck with Muslims moniker though.....would have made things interesting for MTV.

OVERVIEW:

LIMITED TO 400 COPIES

Ever since conquering CMJ in New York last year, embarking on a series of hotly coveted supports with bands like Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and The Last Shadow Puppets, creating a buzz in everything from Rolling Stone to The New York Times via the NME and Q magazines, selling out the critically acclaimed double A side 7” Brightside / Nighlife and the Merok released ‘Extinction’ EP in the blink of an eye, The Soft Pack have established themselves as one of the most exciting and ascendant rock bands either side of the pond.

Now, the LA quartet of Matt Lamkin, Matty McLoughlin, David Lantzmann and Brian Hill are back with a brand new 7” single ‘Answer To Yourself’ (released November 2 on the legendary Heavenly imprint) and a mini UK headline tour to boot!

Following sessions in New York with ace producer Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys), the band showcase ‘Answer to Yourself’ the first glimpse of what to expect from their debut long player, and how!  Constantly evolving, the band have added another dimension to their sound without losing any of the incendiary, no holds barred thrills of their earlier work. In fact, ‘Answer To Yourself’ crashes through like an adrenaline shot straight to the cerebral cortex! Coming strapped with a bassline right out of the Peter Hook school, the oblique lyrical wit and cuttingly swathe delivery of Jonathan Richman, and the all-out-attack guitar-scapes of Ron Sexsmith (The Stooges), ‘Answer To Yourself‘ is every bit as impeccable as those bands The Soft Pack reference.

In conjunction with the release the band are set to play a string of shows in the UK in November. As anyone who has seen the band live before will testify, these shows are not to be missed.
