The Kiara Elles are a girl fronted group who play a hybrid of riot girrrrrl mixed in with a sort of 90s britpop. Almost all their songs come in at around 2 and a half minutes and have a tight, nicely produced sound. The sleeves look great and has a total handmade feel. It's on the Vandel label and there are a super limited number of copies. 'Odio' is short, sharp and quite exciting.. a bit like a weekend at Chegwins....

What their label says...

As it is with many of the most things exciting and fresh in music, it is made by those who are not studied and not tied by the expectation and demands of current knowledge or trends. And so The Kiara Elles forge ahead, doing what they want, the way they want it.

Chiara Lucchini (AKA The Kiara Elles hyperactive frontwoman), shot and edited the video to lead track ‘Odio’ herself; having never made a video before, she had to learn the skills as she worked. The EP itself literally has the band’s personal stamp on every sleeve, each limited edition 7" vinyl has individually home made and hand stamped sleeves, made of varied styles of texturised wallpaper, the band cutting and gluing each one. Even bass player Emma had never owned or played a bass guitar before stepping into the role for The Kiara Elles (having previously been the bands keyboard player)

It is due to this DIY ethic that after a string of shows with The Whip, The Chapman Family, Shy Child, The Organ and Ipso Facto and the stamp of approval from Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens on Radio 1 and Chris Martin on NME Radio (all while unsigned), the band turned down numerous labels that didn’t share their vision or work ethic until finding a kindred spirit in Choque Hosein.

A decade on from receiving Leeds’ first Mercury Music nomination with his band Black Star Liner, Choque now runs Leeds hottest new label Vandal. As well as head of the bands label, Choque also takes production duties (as he has previously for bands such as The Brute Chorus and Black Wire) on this EP and the bands upcoming debut LP which is scheduled for spring 2010.

The Kiara Elles are CHIARA LUCCHINI on Vocals, JONNY LEE HART on Guitar, EMMA QUICK on Bass, DAN STRETTON on Drums, and AMY GREIR on Synths.
