Limited to 1000 copies, Majeure's debut isn't expected to be available too long given that it's a project of Zombi's drummer, A.E. Paterra, and their stuff is so in demand these days. Plus it's totally amazing! More rhythmically focused than the stuff his main band have been doing for the past few years, the three side-long odysseys that make up this double LP eschew the more proggy stop-start stuff in favour of sticking a pin in the sky, focusing on a star and propelling you right the fuck there. He's dropped the horror for a little bit of star gazing.. Although John Carpenter still frequently comes to mind. At various points I'm also reminded of the mint Vangelis tune that plays over the Blade Runner credits, Detroit techno, classic electro, the cosmic disco of prime Cerrone, Moroder etc. etc. Klaus Schulze more than deserves a mention too, especially as Timespan sounds like it could easily pass for one of his album titles. Totally stompin' analogue synth heaven and the best thing I've heard either he or Steve Moore do since their brilliant early releases. And it's all packaged up in a lavish sci-fi themed gatefold sleeve that fits the sounds a treat, comes with an MP3 download code and sports a tasteful geometric etching on the fourth side. Since the dawn of the new millennium, Pittsburgh, PA’s Zombi have explored the inner depths of outer space. As the duo’s music becomes increasingly progressive and far-reaching, its individual members have begun to craft an array of solo efforts inspired by everything from Italo-disco to obscure German psychedelic noise and 70/80s electronic film scores. Majeure is the alter ego of Zombi drummer A.E. Paterra, and Timespan is its debut release. Taking the term “full-length” quite literally, the album is made up of three epic side-long journeys through time and space. Merging the darkness of Vangelis’ Blade Runner-era Moog-driven scores and the stately minimalism of Steve Reich and Philip Glass with the relentless drive of Can and Silver Apples, Timespan delivers inspiring sci-fi disco of the highest caliber. Written, recorded and painstakingly produced by Paterra over an 18-month period, Majeure is unique in its careful collaboration of live and electronic sounds. Anchored by Paterra’s sturdy, propulsive live drums, each song uses layers of analogue synthesizers to masterfully craft extended compositions that virtually stop time before speeding it up, culminating in countless moments of genuine majesty. As much a voyage as an album could ever offer, Timespan is dense, quite a bit magical and genuinely addictive. With an uncanny devotion to its celestial mood and cosmic scale, it gracefully keeps its feet on the floor and its head in the stars. Tracks : 1. The Dresden Codex (13:46) 2. Teleforce (9:39) 3.
