I don't know shit all about Cave though i'm sure i heard the 'Psychic Psummer' L.P on the office stereo a while back....i can't remember, i'm a busy lady. Anyway, this is two E.P's on one 12" entitled 'Hunt like Devil/Jamz'. 'Hunt like devil' kicks things off nicely with a krautrock jam with attitude like the kind of thing Trans Am might do if they decided to write a Can tribute record. Fully repetitious and relatively minimal in terms of arrangement this jam is the main track on side one and totally rocks the party. Chanty vocals and additional percussive outbursts lively up this tasty tune and the guitar solo is wild as hell, a perfect crescendo to awesome tune!!! I'm digging it yo! 'Hunt like devil' is sandwich in by three little sound collages. 'HLD3' is mental riff repletion that sounds like a little snapshot from the recording of King Crimson's '21st century schizoid man'. 'HLD4' is the same riff slowed to snails pace and shot into outer space before splintering into a delayed space rock jam with vocoder vocals and a persistently eternal riff. Total aceness! The 'Jamz' E.P is an all together dirgier beast that kicks off with a slow jam of epic proportions. 'Seans inner ear' has riffs that sound like they've been pitched down into the ground with tone generators providing the only discernable textures. '4.24.06' is equally mongy bong rock with more cool tone generators providing the mutant melodies and final track 'Drum like devil' is possibly the sweetest of the bunch with it's insistent afro-beat groove and accompanying bass line. So, everyone at Norman Towers agrees, this is an amazing record that completely justifies any hype surrounding the group. An inventive an exciting take on krautrock traditional's.
