What their label says...
In their own words
Recording The Album
“We originally planned to make a completely electronic album, but as the recordings
progressed we started to sneak in the odd guitar here and there, and before we really
thought about it we had written what I can only describe as an electronic progressive rock
record”
Daniel Vincent
“We did our usual thing of demoing material at home before deciding on the tracks we
would work on for the album. Daniel went away to Devon and came back with a load of
dance tracks which we took apart and re-invented as guitar songs, whereas I bought a few
varied ideas to the table: the title track and Path Of Totality are the songs that came from my demos – we also have a
couple of longer tracks which we decided didn't quite fit this time around.”
Dominic Hemy
Unite
“Unite was an idea I had based around the electronic riff and a drum 'n' bass sample. As we layered the other parts I
spoke to Scott [Fuller] about maybe putting some vocals down. He came over and recorded the vocals in a couple of
takes. We tracked the vocals a few times to see what would suit the track best, and we ended up using them all in the
second half.”
Daniel Vincent
Regaining Independence
“We talked to our friends at Burning Shed about continuing our partnership with them but we were conscious that we
wanted to do something different with this album – labels on the whole aren't so keen when you turn round and tell
them you're giving away your valuable product for free. Daniel [Vincent] and Lisa [Vincent, Daniel's wife and founder of
mrs.vee recordings] were talking about resurrecting their label [mrs.vee recordings] and we then started talking about
putting the album out ourselves. That way we can do as we please, which is always nice.”
Dominic Hemy
On the future
“I'm very pleased with this album. At the beginning of the year I was unsure whether we'd make another record, but
making this one has been such a joy from start to finish, and the fact that we wrote and demoed another album's worth
of material at the same time shows what a creative time we've had. We hope that by giving this album away we'll be
able to reach out to new fans and reward them with plenty of new tracks over the coming years.”

About the band
Daniel Vincent (Karma Pilot, Onion Jack) and Dominic Hemy (The 3rd Fire) formed The Resonance Association as a
vehicle with which to drive their shared love of musical experimentation. The resulting music crosses into many
different musical territories. Fans of experimental electronica, space rock, EBM, post-rock and progressive rock are all
regular attendees to the band's gigs.
The duo's first release, the four-track 40-minute mini-album Volume One, served up a broad sonic palette: drones,
drum loops, and heavily distorted instrumentation blended with atmospheric sound synthesis and
samples to make songs that take the listener on a real musical journey.
When most acts would be basking in the success of a completed album, the duo followed up with Appendix One,
another four-track collection, this time featuring three live tracks (one from the rehearsal studio, two from the duo's
October 2006 appearance at The Flea Pit in London) and a different mix of Volume One's opener Fake Numbers
Station.
Volume Two followed soon after, in December 2006: four tracks of ambient rock experimentation, found sounds and
atmospheric samples. Its counterpart, Appendix Two, features a live improvisation of what would become Adrift Part
One, in addition to three tracks left over from the writing sessions.
In early 2007, the duo also released a suite of four songs entitled Northern Coastline Soundtrack, inspired by a remote
listening post on the Yorkshire Moors near Whitby in Northern England. These four songs were released on a limited
promotional CD with four other tracks - three remixes and an early version of The Darkening Forest.
The duo released their debut full-length album Failure Of The Grand Design through art-rock label Burning Shed in
October 2007.
The album release was followed by the Grand Design EP which featured album tracks Electrolyte and Magnetophon
alongside a remix and an unreleased demo.
The free EP was downloaded over 1500 times in the first two weeks from the Burning Shed download store.
