Various, of Production fame, have a new collaboration 7" with The Silt, the pesky little jobber being out through Fire, although this release continues the highly appealing sequence of tastefully adorned sleeves that started with their own self released output yonks ago. I'm not totally convinced by this "collaboration" - 'How Can You Stand' - the flanged soul vocals err a bit toward irritatingly vocodered territory - HelpfulBrett (tm) has uttered the dangerous words "Dane Bowers" - and the music is drifty, woozy & cosmic with a lolloping half-paced beat that all in all errs more towards wobbly downtempo garage/soul. It does have quite a gorgeous spangled aura to it though and is well worth a listen, possibly somewhere between Bibio & Jamie Lidell? The original by The Silt on the flip (Come Back to the Willow) is flittery folk funk with cod soul vocals & flutes, draw yr own conclusion, nicely executed but not particularly my bag. I prefer what the likes of Panagea & Darkstar do with treated soulful harmonies, this is a bit average IMO. Lovely art tho.....Ltd 7" innit
