So I've got another Malcolm Middleton track to review. I'll try and bit more open minded this time around..... Sorry Malcolm. 'Zero' is certainly more dynamic and danceable than previous tracks I've reviewed. Malcolm's vocal and guitar are augmanted with some electronic beats and a some warm synth tones. It's even got a little 80's rap style spoken bit. It's a pretty catchy number overall (even if it is about bring buried with partner/loved one), certainly helped by the additional instruments and production. 'Bad Stuff's Free' is also augmented with beats, this time in a lo-fi New Order style. I also like the proggy synth folk breakdown that presents itself midway through. Definitely the best of his singles I've heard so far and certainly a departure/development on previous outings.

What their label says...

· Casio tones? Toe-tapping beats? Handclaps?
Rapping? Were it not for the lyrics about being
buried with your partner, the distinctive Scottish
burr and self-deprecating comments about
wordy songwriters, you could be forgiven for
mistaking ‘Zero’ as the work of someone other than
Malcolm Middleton.
· Malcolm’s profile has been raised significantly
by the success of last year’s Christmas single
campaign.
