Now I know everybody like that Beach Head album but the Sun Araw record that did it for me was 'The Phynx'. Thought that was well Captain Marvelous. That Cameron dude has a new vinyl 12" record out called 'Heavy Deeds', it begins with some wonky DIY tropical swamp blues like Spiritualized & Alan Vega peyoted off their face in a humid bog. This remarkable record carries on in a distorted, sludgy, droney manner with some fantastic trippy sounds merging with some kind of meandering free-rock dream world. The guitar often sounds like some fucked-up acid-soaked wah-wah mess & the organ was probably found in a bin but I'm happily convinced the whole melee is going to gag me, throw me in the back of a camper van & take me to Hawaii to mingle with lovely ladies in hammocks whilst smoking something incredibly strong & psychedelic. The most trashed blues record I've heard in many a moon.....

Sound clips for Heavy Deeds by Sun Araw: on vinyl at Norman Records UK. LP (vinyl), Not Not Fun, NNF169, £13.99.
As they tour the UK for the first time ever, we get ready for the full length debut from Sun Araw, tweaked Tubbyisms via the Ashra Temple, this is some sheer blessed out shimmer: SUN ARAW, initially launched solely as a recording project for Magic Lantern guitarist Cameron Stallones, quickly transformed into a stunning live act as well, bolstered by a string of rapturously received LPs - 'Beach Head' on Not Not Fun and 'Boat Trip' on Woodsist. Drawing equally upon 70s kraut-psych rock, Spacemen 3-style drug blues and woozy tropical world music, Sun Araw's universe is a rapidly expanding one. Cameron's electric gospel landed him on a number of prominent music review "Best Of 2008" lists, and the trend seems to only be beginning.
