Floating Points I've not heard of before but they have a 12" out this week on Planet Mu that sounds quite appealing. On 'J&W Beat' There's a nice garage shuffle to the beats with some sweet little synthesizer melodies that recall early Plaid. A funky, playful and enjoyable little tune with a nice happy vibe. The flipside is similar in style with a bit more of a hip hop beat. I reckon fans of Flying Lotus could be into this. There's some soulful flourishes to this one that really grab me. This is going down well on this ludicrously hot summers day.

What their label says...

Championed by Gilles Peterson, the highly talented young Floating Points deliver two slices of psychedelic soul and aynthfunk squiggles on this their debut 12" for Planet Mu.

Underpinned by squashed up 2- step rhythms and compressed hip hop drums, this is on par with anything by Hud Mo or Mike Slott.

Having released one 7" so far (For You/Radiality on their own and Alex Nut’s Eglo imprint), they are destined to become big players in the emerging scene.
