I think everyone else in here hates Current 93. It's not hard to understand why, David Tibet's ridiculously theatrical delivery is an acquired taste to say the least (one which I've never acquired, but can just about tolerate) and the lyrics, dense with Biblical, literary and mythological references, are tough to defend against accusations of pretensiousness but if you happen to be able to open yourself up and go with it there are riches to be had. The music's always fantastic on his releases and Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain is no different, mixing up drone, metal, industrial, folk, post-rock and God knows what else to create about the most insanely epic apocalyptic shit you're ever likely to hear. As usual he's roped in an impressive cast to join him, including James Blackshaw, Baby Dee, Matt Sweeney, Andrew WK, Steven Stapleton, Andrew Liles and porn star turned Hollywood leading lady Sasha Grey. I always tend to think this stuff would be absolutely amazing with someone else singing (a point proved by much of Black Ships Ate the Sky) but still, a pretty ace record and one to get lost in if you fancy a bit of over-the-top escapism.. Or maybe a laugh at someone who probably plays Warhammer. Whichever.

Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.
