Well well well. Told you there'd be a furore. And that name The Muslims bristled with controversy didn't it? Better attacked on the street with machetes than re-christening your band The Soft Pack though! What is a "soft pack?" All I'm aware of is that the wonderful Fly Ashtray once did a song named as such. Doesn't make a jot of difference to the music though. This UK primer features 5 of the bestest tracks from the relatively pricey US album and the first ever single 'Extinction', all packaged in a pastiche of an old Pavement sleeve, just as Pavement's sleeves were a pastiche of The Fall's!! Awww!! These slacker homies keepin' it real.....I'm still in love with the trashy jangly garage-isms and primal indie rock that these boys exude but just wish the NME and their ilk would fuck off & leave them alone. Who wants to see a webcast of the drummer having a piss or now what colour boxers Matt Lamkin wears? Surely this behaviour exhausts all the exiting potential new bands have to offer as they end up being literally drained of all their energy & fire what with being under the media spotlight so often? Gripe over, if you hesitated before, take heed - these 6 tracks are just wonderful. Ltd i'm sure....

What their label says...
Having recently blazed their way across our fair city with their debut UK tour in February, during which they packed out venues and caused frenzied lines to snake around the block for miles, the LA quartet of Matt Lamkin, Matty McLoughlin, David Lantzmann and Brian Hill – known collectively as The Soft Pack – are now set to release an electrifying EP to further demonstrate exactly why they are currently one of 2009’s great white hopes.
Following on from their critically hailed debut release, the “Nightlife/ Bright Side” 7” single, listeners will now get the opportunity to experience more of The Soft Pack’s pure, unadulterated rock and roll thrills when the perennially cutting edge Merok release “Extinction”, a collection of some of their best material to date. Presented together, these 6 tracks – from the anthemic, teasingly provocative clarion call of the title track (with its refrain of “If you give me a gun/ I will point it at you”) to the urgent, riproaring “On My Time”, to the swaggering insouciance of closer “Call It A Day” – showcase rock and roll at its apogee, distilled to its very essence, stripped of any pretence and unadorned by any unnecessary frivolity; put simply, music at its most raw and exciting. Furthermore, in conjunction with the release, the band will also be returning to the UK in May for more rousing live dates; see below for all the details.
“Rough and ready revivalists, worth the fuss? Yes” – Sunday Times Culture
“Irresistibly infectious…this lot will be poster boys and A-list material by this time next year” – Dazed and Confused
“All but flawless” - NME
“Blazing, red-hot rock” - Clash
