Apparently when Phil last played Dirty Projectors to me in this office, I was begging him to turn it off, never had I heard such defiantly awkward & hideous music posing as pop before. 'Stillness is the Move' is their first single for indie behemoth Domino and is SO much more preferable to these tired ears. Falling somewhere between prime Luscious Jackson & Gang Gang Dance with this wonderful sassy female R&B vocal swooping above a suitably lazy old skool 80's hip-hop drum groove. It's a very stripped back tune bristling with a slight eighties sheen - an addictively dinky wibbling afro guitar topped with that amazing multi-tracked vocal performance just keeps on flowing right up against an ecstatic flowing keyboard that appears halfway. The vocals finish just in time for the keyboards approximation of a moving classical string flourish as the finale. Excellent comeback from these challenging tykes.

What their label says...
Domino are happy to announce the release of ‘Stillness Is The Move’, the first single taken from Brooklyn’s Dirty Projectors’ forthcoming album, ‘Bitte Orca’. The single will be available on 12" and digital, with new b-sides and a remix by Lucky Dragons. The lead track had full page coverage in the NME as the number one track to hear, with the mag proclaiming vocalist Amber Coffman’s sprinkles “shiver inducing Mariah style R’n’B gymnastics over delicious Afro Hop backing”. The band played to ecstatic receptions on their recent UK tour, selling out a show at London’s Scala, and there is a great buzz building around the band. Limited edition 12” (500 copies).
