Having to review a new Cornershop 7" first thing in the morning is really upsetting, not just because it's well dodgy (naturally, it's by Cornershop and it's not 'Brimful of Asha') but more because its unprecedented use of harcore irritation powers make it really hard to know where to start. Is the clever-clever lyrical wordiness the worst thing? Perhaps the bass playing, which Business Lady has proclaimed "the worst ever"? Who knows. 'The Roll Off Characteristics of History in the Making' is what this thing is called.

What their label says...

"In 1974, in his State address to Congress, Gurkhal Surjan, Patwallia Dist., stated that the world will be tested by Texas Instruments, and English diction." These are the anti-war, pro-people words from the Cornershop new single ‘The Roll Off Characteristics (Of History In The Making)‘on the ample play label. Musically it’s different, from the trombone/sitar get-go, right down to its funk outro, with country piano added for good measure. Different but typically Cornershop, which is why it is already getting many watts of support from UK and foreign radio. Nihal from Radio 1 immediately declared it “the perfect soundtrack to festival season”

Nigel of The Rough Trade Shop, has said “it has all the markings of classic Cornershop” MTV’s Nusrat Durrani responded ”it has everything I love about Cornershop in a nutshell” The B. side is an etch by NYC's Jeffrey Lewis depicting the super dooper Jaganath, whom can circumference the earth in 5 steps. Cornershop recently played Wireless, Hyde Park, and came back to the live arena with what they call form, to a rapturous audience. It was their first staged show since they were asked to appear at Jarvis Cocker's Meltdown event last summer. Forthcoming summer dates have now been scheduled. The new Longplayer is complete and as ever, combines a constantly changing instrumentation, absorbing fresh ideas and new musical elements. Cornershop are said to be overwhelmed with the unrelenting support of Radio stations & get-togethers in all four corners of the world.
