"Norwegian pop princess Annie". I don't need to review this single do I? She's like the Kylie it's cool to like innit? 'Anthonio' is about a failed holiday romance apparently and there's one of those "comeback" effigies from "Anthonio" titled Annie. I've always had a soft spot for quality Euro trance pop & this Richard X produced effort is a richly layered blend of clipped cutesie vocals and laser shagging candy floss synths with a perfectly adequate & unfussy mid tempo disco beat. It sounds a bit like Saint Etienne crossed with Ladytron, two huge cult concerns who probably know more about the essence of great pop than Simon Cowell could ever EVER dream of. This single is actually pretty fantastic, I even want to hurl myself around to the grinding, galloping Designer Drugs mix but I've got a ton to do so it better go on the backburner 'till I got my chinos and party shoes on and hit the tiles on Friday. Does anyone remember that Motiv-8 mix of Common People by Pulp? Now that is well banging x popBRIAN
