What the FUCK happened to Yeah Yeah Yeahs? EH? They start off as a scuzzy no-wave garage rock mess and now they're high gloss 80's radio pop fodder? Well, they must know what they're doing & all the air punching euphoria ther early tunes suggested is now distilled into anthemic, high octane delirium. Well Uncle Phil has it bang on when he says "How come no-one remembers Republica but THIS is cool?" Cos that's exactly the kind of airbrushed FM sound 'Zero' is rocking. Still, less tedious than the Metric single & not quite as cheesy as La Roux, I'd like to see the response this smash in waiting garners in a big sweaty club with an astronomically expe(a)nsive sound system. The Animal Collective remix on the flip of this 7" is a completely bizarre pulsing, semi-ambient de-construction that would empty that very same club as quick as it filled. Curiouser & curiouser 2x7" & CDs.
