The Thermals and a new 4 track 7". The oddest band, they sound like a cross between Guided by Voices & mid period Pavement crossed with Tom Petty & The Vines. They just used to sound like GBV with a big rocket up their arse, their debut LP was just the ticket. I really don't think they've progressed one iota in 6 years and that saddens me greatly. Like they only know about two riffs and several cliched ad-libs when they initially seemed so full of spirit & vigour! These two new songs, the lackluster 'Now We Can See' & the much more satisfactory & worthwhile 'My World' are twinned with demo versions on the flip and the whole thing comes along with a download code to obtain the new album in digital format totally free. Is this the future of music? Well worth your money then, this gets 5/10 for music, 11/10 for keeping the fans sweet & being good sports. On Kill Rock Stars...

What their label says...

"Now We Can See" is the first single from The Thermals' upcoming CD/LP, Now We Can See, their fourth full-length album, and first for Kill Rock Stars. The "Now We Can See" single also includes the song "My World", plus demo versions of both songs, making side A ("Now We Can See"/"My World") the "hi-fi side", and side B ("Now We Can See (demo)"/"My World (demo)" the "lo-fi (or "no-fi", if yr nasty) side". Thermals fans new and old will appreciate the shiny bombast of side A, while side B should please those who feel The Thermals' cassette-recorded debut More Parts Per Million is still their best.
