2008 saw the return of one of rocks most unique and enigmatic duos, The Kills,
with their third album ‘Midnight Boom’. VV (Alison) and Hotel (Jamie) have long
symbolised what draws people to rock ‘n’ roll, downright cool and sexy, and with
songs that most other rock n roll acts can only dream about making.
‘Midnight Boom’ features beats and studio smarts from Spank Rock’s producer
Alex Epton aka Armani XXXchange, making a truly forward thinking, fresh new
sound for the band, with many citing it as a complete breakthrough for the band and
their best work yet.
Praise for the album came from the likes of Mojo, The Fly, Mixmag, Time Out
and Dazed And Confused, with cover features in Notion and Stool Pigeon.
Features followed in Clash, NME, The Fly, Artrocker, Vogue, Independent and
many more.
Radio support for previous singles came in from 6 Music and XFM playlists, to
strong specialist support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq, Marc Riley
and George Lamb.
‘Black Balloon’, one of the stand out tracks from ‘Midnight Boom’, is the haunting
tale of having to say goodbye to a love and shows a side to The Kills that many
aren’t familiar with, a gentler, more melodic side.
The video for the track is directed by internationally acclaimed photographer
Kenneth Cappello, and provides a stunning and dark visual backdrop to the track.
Limited run of 1000 10” worldwide.
