I've always thought the Black Lips were a bit shit and I was ready to kick the face off their new 7" 'Short Fuse' on Vice but I (wierdly) ended up thinking it wasn't too bad. It's a decent slice of 60's influenced garage psych pop rock. It has a slightly hoary guitar solo which goes on just a bit too long at the end and that took away some of the goodness but overall their brand of flower shaped garage punk of wasn't half as annoying as I thought it would be. There are surprises every day and this is today's surprise...

What their label says...

· After turning the music world on its ear with 2007’s triumphantly bratty
breakthrough ‘Good Bad Not Evil’, the quartet is set to return with the new
single ‘Short Fuse’ backed with another killer b-side in the shape of ‘Born To
Be A Man’.
· The track is taken from their second album for Vice, ‘200 Million Thousand’,
which is vintage Black Lips, a snotty 14-track celebration of unadorned rock n
roll and no-bullshit songwriting.
