If I were to say that the new Fleet Foxes 7" on Bella Union sounds like the imaginary soundtrack to a gerbil snuff movie then I'm sure we'd sell loads anyway as they seem to be incredibly popular. They've sold shitloads of records worldwide and their album was in a ton of end of year lists. This gives me total deja vu and I can't put my finger on who it sounds like which is doing my nut in.... Oh Crosby Stills & Nash and Neil Young. Brian reckons it's not unlike a more acoustic Arcade Fire. 'Mykonos' reminds me of stuff my dad used to play when I was a kid. 70's style dadrock with a most authentic sound. Dadrock is probably the most unfashionable genre going which is good with me. I'm a dad.

Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.

OVERVIEW: 2008 has been the year of Fleet Foxes. The band’s self-titled debut is unquestionably the most acclaimed album of the year, and has since become the record to top most end of the year lists. Fleet Foxes are MOJO’s number 1 album and band of 2008, Sunday Times number 1 album, were at number 2 in Q, Rough Trade and Uncut’s end of year list, and number 3 in The Fly. Seattle’s finest were also the recipient of the inaugural Uncut Music Magazine Award, fending off competition from the likes of Radiohead, Elbow and Bon Iver.
As well as being the critics choice Fleet Foxes have also been a massive commercial success this year. Their self-titled debut has now sold over 140,000 copies in the UK alone, while the band selling out 2 nights at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in a matter of weeks. Fleet Foxes have since announced 3 consecutive nights at the Roundhouse in February (are the first band do EVER do this on a debut album alone!), all dates of which sold-out within just 2 weeks.

This 7 Inch of the Incredible Mykonos (taken from the brand new 2 disc version of the album) includes a brand new recording of the Steeleye Span classic “False Knight On the Road.”
