I haven't really tried with Antony and the Johnsons in the past to be honest, if Elton John endorses something I'm not that likely to go rushing out to sample it so I haven't got too much of a frame of reference with The Crying Light. The bits I've heard I've been a bit ambivalent about his voice which is pretty much what the whole thing hinges on, I really love the stuff he did on the Hercules and Love Affair LP but on his own records I find it a bit much, as undoubtedly impressive as it is. The music is lovely, somehow both sparse and rich, and the songs seem pretty excellent but I'm just not sure about it for my own ear tunnels. It's motivated me to keep trying with them though.. I want to lay on my chaise-longue with a feather boa round my neck and the back of my hand against my forehead, as a swan sympathetically cleans the waterfall of tears running down my face. That's what this stuff is for, right? Fans'll fucking love this one, I'm pretty confident about that. On both LP and CD.

Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.
