What their label says...

Cumbia! The infectious Latin American rhythm keeps on grooving – from dancefloors in Mexico to cool-hunting clubs across Europe. Cumbia's blogosphere love and gringo attention has skyrocketed in the past year, so we turned to the most knowledgeable cumbiambero we know, Buenos Aires' Sonido Martines, to guide us through cumbia's roots and future. Compiled by next-level record digger and DJ, Sonido Martines, Nueva Cumbia Argentina: the Buenos Aires Implosion, is set to be the most important cumbia compilation of 2009.  In anticipation of this release, we have put together an all-girls 4-track EP from the compilation which includes everyone from new school wonder El Hijo de la Cumbia to superstars Damas Gratis. (one of South America's most popular and influential cumbia bands, inventors of the gangsta  sound called cumbia villera) This 4-track EP (12” vinyl / digital) delivers a massive dose of tropical female power. El Hijo de la Cumbia teams up with Argentina's leading dancehall queen, Alika, for “Para Bailar rmx”, a reggaeton-tinged upbeat accordeon number.  Sonido Martines shakes up Peruvian cumbia legends Los Destellos, the stars of the 'Roots of Chicha' CD , with a catchy remix featuring Brazilian MC and Al-Haca family member Fefe 'pon the mic. The remaining two tracks feature Princesa. Her strident, versatile voice is one Argentina's best-kept secrets. (Imagine Ivy Queen with a feminist stance). Here she collabos with Zizek's flagship producer, Chancha Via Circuito, and Buenos Aires' tropical IDM pioneer Marcelo Fabian.
