Lovely single of the week has to be this seasonal split 7" on Paw Tracks. The first side what I am playing on my Phonograph emitter is by Drawlings - Rings' Abie Porter with assistance of Animal collective's Dave Portner - called 'Wolfie's Christmas'. It's a bizarre twinklesome waltz of a tune complete with horse neighings, sleigh bells and a very slightly wonky female lullaby voice and it's just charmed my hessian thong right off my spotty arse. I'd marry this girl, even if she were a slavering troll, with an angelic voice like that. The run out groove is better than some of the Raster Noton stuff. It actually makes me wanna go sledging, and as it's snowing today, I may go tell old Philthy wet-boss over there to go stuff his silly job up his damp posterior. Except, I need to check Reverend Green & Antony & Kria Breekan on t' other side. 'Be Good to Earth This Season' sounds like it's been filched out of a bin, on a slightly damp reel to reel tape or a gently warped 45. Crackles, church bells and a sample of some old cracked 78, spliced together by the power of digital persuasion to create a magical lullaby worthy of a Nancy & Lee comparison. First off we have a track from Reverend Green (aka Brad Truax of Home/Jah Division) who enlists the help of a certain Antony Hagerty and Mum’s Kria Brekkan on backing vocals.
Sounding like some recently unearthed 78rpm, this track is an inspirational meditation on self-development and the importance of earth awareness.
Next is the first solo recording of Rings member Abby Portner under the name of her new project Drawlings. ‘Wolfie’ was recorded with Dave Portner of Animal Collective and is a haunted children’s carol that will keep you glad you’re inside by the fire.
