What their label says...

This November sees the release of the first The Fireman album, ‘Electric Arguments’, in 10 years, and this song-based album couldn’t be more different than its predecessors.  For those who don’t know by now, The Fireman is a collaborative project between music icon Paul McCartney and revered producer Youth.  The pair first worked together in the 90s when they made two ambient dance albums.  Originally The Fireman’s identity was anonymous and was eventually revealed by the press as being Paul and Youth.

In September it was announced that The Fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference – the duo had found their voice.  Speculation began; one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like ‘Arcade Fire meets Led Zeppelin’.  Certainly so far, anyone who has already heard the album has commented on just how accessible ‘Electric Arguments’ is, compared to the first two Fireman albums.

Radio 1 had the debut play of the track ‘Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight’ and made it their ‘Hottest Record In The World Right Now’.  After hearing the album Zane Lowe commented, “Just awesome!”  Since then The Fireman have also received glowing endorsements and plays by Radio 1 DJ’s Colin Murray, Annie Mac and Steve Lamacq.  Ultra cool music site Clash.com described the album as, “a staggering collection of timeless adventures that touch on the best aspects of today’s more leftfield sounds.”

Earlier this month (October), select international media were invited to a special album playback at the legendary Abbey Road studios.  The reaction was one of total delight and surprise.  Immediately stories began to appear around the world about McCartney’s best work in years.  For those expecting a Paul McCartney dance album, well, this isn’t it, but it is an eclectic and diverse collection of songs that show Paul is still interested in pure musical possibilities. Each track was written and recorded in the space of one day.  The Fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound.  The project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.

In the coming months The Fireman’s album will be supported by a high profile visible media campaign with Paul and Youth both proactively lending their support to this release.

“The Fireman takes your hand and leads you through the blaze to places you didn’t know you wanted to go.”
Paul McCartney October 2008
