First up is the second Flying Lotus LA remix EP 'L.A. EP 2 X 3' Some graphic design genius has put a sticker on the sleeve that says "To view WAP248 as it was intended, please remove this label after purchase" it's fucking beyond me that one. It has me using blue language... So Warp have enlisted the remix talents of Flying Lotus's mates Samiyam, Ras G, Martyn, Mike Slott and Soundmurderer. The Martyn mix of 'Roberta Flack' Doesn't do a great deal for me. It has Burial sounding beats and an oldskool ravey synth. In fact I'm not particularly moved by any of the mixes on here although they're all fairly good. It's just more of that current Flying Lotus style that is inspiring a lot of producers at the moment... decent abstract-ish wonky electronic hip hop. Soundmurderer saves the day though... For a moment I thought the man had left his amen's at home.However he brings his own Junglist mash up flavor to the table and it's pretty damn wicked. He keep elements of the original and creates a charging cut up speaker assault that's got me shaking my leg. That last sentence makes me sound like I'm a monoped but I am in fact the proud owner of two legs.
