Time for a new 7" on Bella Union then, this one features two Peter Broderick tracks that emit a whiff of sepia-coloured melancholy. 'Games Again' kicks things off, according to the press release this is an alternate version of a previous tune but having not heard that I'm unable to compare it to this new one. I'm starting to think my mum might have been right when she said I'd never amount to anything. Sometimes I wish a big flying lion covered in flames would come and carry me to Africa, where it all began, to start a new life in the plains. Perhaps there I could truly be myself? Anyway, the first one reminds me a bit of Fleet Foxes vocally, with a bit of a moden classical feel to the music; like the feel of a Max Richter track applied to a more conventional song structure perhaps. The other side is a cover of a Midlake track that I've also not heard, it's all pianoing and wailing like Elton John after he's stubbed his toe. I think this is quite good but don't hold me to it. It's dead limited!

What their label says...
Born in 1987, Peter has played and toured with numerous groups in Portland and has established himself as a regular session musician for numerous recording studios, adding violin, banjo, musical saw, mandolin etc to artists such as M. Ward, Zooey Deschanel, Dolorean, and many more. As a child he studied classical violin, but over time he has collected many different instruments, learning to play them one by one.
In mid 2007, Peter was invited by some of his heroes, the Danish ensemble Efterklang, to move to Copenhagen and join their live band. And so he dropped his entire life in Portland and moved across the world. Since then, he has released a mini album of solo piano music - “Docile” - on the Swedish label Kning Disk, as well as a full length album of piano and string compositions - “Float” - on Type recordings.
Having honed his craft as teenager playing a supporting role to so many artist-friends, Peter’s main focus is now his own music, and this 7 inch reveals him to be a songwriter and musician of astonishing maturity and depth. With an impressive cover of Midlakes “Roscoe” (a not too easy task) and an alternative version of “Games Again,” this piece of vinyl is something any listener will treasure for a long time...
Peter Broderick is an artist of quietly breathtaking beauty, and this gentle and subtle record, reveals its magic gradually over the course of many listens. Those who spend time with this gorgeous 7 inch will come to view it like an old friend… reassuring, consoling, dependable.
