Beach House are from Baltimore like The Wire and Toni Braxton, who they aren't much like. 'Used to Be' is really delicate and dreamy like Mazzy Star, I don't know if it's just the cover but it kind of makes me think of that melancholy you sometimes get on days where the sun's totally blaring down on you.. This would've sounded good on the soundtrack for The Virgin Suicides or something. Nice stuff on Bella Union!

What their label says...

The Time has arrived… The very first Beach House seven inch single is here…Swish!

Bella Union and Beach House present a limited edition single featuring the new song “Used To Be” from the Baltimore duo. Recorded over the summer of 2008 after many exhaustive months of touring, “Used To Be” contemplates the spiritual and physical effects of life on the everchanging road, love and getting older.

The b-side is a four-track demo version of “Apple Orchard” (from the Beach House album) recorded three years to the month before the new song. It’s one of the first things Alex and Victoria recorded together as Beach House.

With this tiny single, one can hear a small history of the band, where they came from, and where they’re going.

With the band joining the revolutionary the Wham City Round Robin tour this October featuring a who’s who of the Baltimore music scene, (Dan Deacon, Ponytail, Cex, Lesser Gonzalez Alvarez, Adventure, and at least ten other bands) whilst receiving continual praise for their sophomore full-length Devotion, from places like Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and The New York Times. It looks like Beach House are set for an exciting future!

Hold on…
