The Vivian Girls are back with another 7" called 'I Can't Stay' with 'Blind Spot' on the other side, I think I'm right in saying that neither of these are on the upcoming album which I definitely didn't download a leak of. Thankfully we've got a few more of this one to flog to you all but I imagine we'll still be running out.. A comforting soon-to-be fact, because this band deserve to rule us all. As with their last single that Brian rightly dry heaved with excitement for (which should by rights have been single of the week), this one's got big hints of Sleater Kinney and their earlier riot grrl brethren as well as non-vaginal outfits such as Wipers and Mudhoney. The signature thing is they all seem to sing the words at the same time like some sort of sassy, detached chorus - it gives them just the merest shoegazery hint to add to the fun and games. This is garagey indie rock like your mother used to make; shambolic in the best possible way, like it's in danger of falling to bits at any moment but they're just about managing to keep it together. It's almost as if they've formed a band on the spur of the moment and they've got a show to play at their Rock n' Roll High School in a weeks time so they've written some totally amazing shit with no musical experience whatsoever and on the day they totally slay it like Josie and The Pussycats on a dangerous cocktail of uppers and downers that they'll be watching get pumped out of their animated tum tums three hours later. And I like the bass player's hair to boot. I wish I was a girl sometimes.. Most of the time actually.

What their label says...
The first release by Brooklyn's Vivian Girls has arrived in the form of this handsome two song seven inch single featuring two incredible brand new songs exclusive to this release. By now their praises have been sung from Terminal Boredom to Pitchfork to the New York Times. This is one case where you can believe the hype - this is GREAT stuff.
