The second installment in this series is kicked off with The Horrors' version of 'Shadazz'. Now, The Horrors we've always considered a bit of a London scenester cartoon band with a nice line in frightwig mops & kohl-eyed kiddie menace but what they do here is astounding. Sammy the Crab from The Mighty Boosh would love this, it's well aquatic & sexy. No guitars, it's a hip swivelling, pulsating thing with a stalker low end bassline, a Drexciyan techno beat, lots of chinking, morphing effects firing off all over the place and a vocal seemingly borrowed from The Flaming Stars' Max Decharne. This is Soho inspired groovedubsleaze and I'm buggered if it ain't the finest thing I've heard this week! Well done boys, you've shat on the boss from a great height! The Suicide live version of 'Radiation' is electroid, sub-industrial, spilling with drunken gothic sleaze and it's rivetting. It's from 1984 and couldn't really be anyone else in the world when Vega starts yelping like a broken dog on crack. Nik Void do a brooding, minimal Berlinette version of 'Rocket Miss USA', like Miss Kittin wearing big black shades and drinking vodka martinis with grenadine whilst being nihilistically vampish in thigh boots (I can but dream...). It's a cracking 3 pronged attack is this EP, showcasing the versatility & eclectisism of a supposedly limited template.

What their label says...

A/ The Horrors – Shadazz Specially recorded for this series. An aptly cool song choice, delivered in a twisted dub menace that could well point towards an expanding sound-world for these dark princes ! B1/ Suicide – Radiation Previously unreleased anywhere,1980's live version from Noo Yoik City! B2/ Nik Void – Rocket USA - Nik Void, first ever release in her new persona for ex Kaito frontperson, Nicki Colk. A  propulsive 'tronic floor filler for cool alt/art discos every damm place. Edition of 3000, cover image Alex Rose
