The Coral make a welcome return to our ears with a singles compilation booster called 'Being Somebody Else'. It's their most 70's Radio 2 moment yet, reminding me of the likes of Cat Stevens. The guitar sounds crystaline, like cotton candy being strummed to perfection whilst the vocals are easy going sing-song genius and the strings chirrup merrily over the top like jaunty icing on a fresh cream cake. You imagine shaggy dogs leaping around in a sunny park whilst some loved-up Scousers breakdance to Gerry Rafferty records and laughing girls with shiny hair in bikinis play frisbee. It's perfect pop, like all their best singles. Hopefully the 'Best of...' will tear up the christmas market like The Beautiful South did and when you get to an Xmas party there'll be summat better than Celine Dion to be heard round the in-laws. Or summat. Ace! 7" only.
